Not too long ago, it used to be said 'what Bengal thinks today, India thinks tomorrow', aptly reflecting the intellectual and artistic prowess of the Bengali culture. To put this into perspective, I am proud to say that all Nobel laureates from India are either from Bengal or had their stint somewhere in Bengal! The goal of the Bengali Association of Rochester, MN, USA (The BARMUSA) is to cultivate this rich Bengali Culture as much as possible,to instill the inherent strength and beauty of this culture to our young generations, and to use the culture as a bridge to reach out to the general population of Rochester and elsewhere. It's the cross-cultural enlightenment that we, as an organization intend to achieve.

                The BARMUSA celebrates several festivals every year including Durga Puja,Laxmi Puja and Saraswati Puja. The purpose of these festivals is two-fold:To continue to nurture the tradition we brought into this wonderful country, and to utilize these occasions as venues to be able to intermingle with people of every other cultural background locally as well as globally, whenever possible. Consequently, these festivals are open to everybody. In addition, the BARMUSA also organizes annual picnic and other cultural get-together, which are routinely attended by all the members and their friends. 'You' are welcome to attend any of our celebrations, and give us the opportunity to get to know you!

                  On behalf of the Executive Committee of the BARMUSA, I invite you to become part of our organization, either by becoming a member and/or by providing your ideas and suggestions. I am convinced that it is the feedback from individuals like 'You' which will ultimately help us 'mature' as an organization, and better prepare us to achieve our objective.
